The ballroom-sized dining room is decked out with chandeliers and covered chairs and fortunately, the cooking lives.
The service is more than adequate, though certainly not special. No place in Chicago captures the feel of a dim sum parlor quite like Cai. The room is very large, surprisingly not noisy for so many people, and decorated like every other Chinese restaurant. As for dinner - the noodle dishes, the seafood, the large variety of vegetable dishes - everything is first rate. It is not "Americanized" Chinese cooking at all. It has no dcor to speak of, and is brightly lit with plastic tablecloths to allow for quick and easy. Delicious & hot Chinese and Dim Sum is just mouse clicks away. While there are better options in Chinatown for authentic Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghai, or even Yunnan cuisine, this is as good as it gets for true Cantonese. Cai is a typical Hong Kong style dim sum restaurant. Hence.Cai is a mostly Cantonese, Hong Kong style restaurant in Chicago's Chinatown. And when the bill came, each person only pay $19.00! It was cheap compares to San Francisco. I’d recommend Cai but I wouldn’t say it’s a good price eats as typically to me, dim sum is on the pricer side as a style of dinning. We must have ordered piles of dim sum plates: shrimp tofu, fried taro root cake, vegetarian rows, claypots, rice porridges, etc. I like the looks of this one, and they serve dim sum all day Early leader and thank you 1. At the top of the stairs, it was like a storage place with chairs and cases of soda bottles theres stacked up high! I climbed the narrow stairs and was very astonished there full of huge people chatting and eating beaming with lights as there were large windows with sun light shining in. When I arrived by taxi, the driver pointed to a long two stories building. Not dim sum, do expect sizeable portions. Should you order from the a la carte menu, I.e. The baskets of freshly made succulent shrimp dumplings were divine.
